Aren't the division winners seeded and then the wild cards can only by #5 or #6 (based on their records)?

In this scenario, the 9-7 division winner would likely be #4 (I guess #3 is possible if there's two crap divisions) while the wild card teams (10-6) would be either #5 or #6 based on their tiebreakers. Correct?
Absolutely this could happen. I haven't experienced it yet though. I've had a wildcard team and the division winner have the same record but thats the extent of it in my experience thus far. And in two of those cases they were from the same division and once the division winner(Bears) beat the Vikings both times during the regular season, and the other was my first year post patch 2 where the Saints and the Panthers had identical 10-6 seasons, split the regular season head to head, but the Saints went 5-1 in the division while the Panthers were 4-2. Saints were the divisional winners and the Panthers were the first wildcard team.

So I have yet to see the tiebreaker formula not work properly. Not saying it doesn't, just that I haven't seen it, and again, my earlier post contained a poor choice of words in expressing that experience. Which is why I shouldn't post w/o having had my morning coffee.

Yes, Division winners are always the top 4 seeds.

I've read that others have said it doesn't work properly, but in my experience its worked out as it should. I'm not saying they are wrong, and I apologize for my earlier post coming across that way, just that in my time the tiebreakers have worked out as they should.
The Titans/Browns missed out while the Bengals went through. It shouldn't matter H2H between Ravens/Bengals. A 10-3-1 record is greater than a 10-4 record. No tiebreaker is needed as the records are not equal.

Look at the Eagles of last year if you need evidence.

So the Bengals won the division at 10-4 while the Ravens finished second at 10-3-1?

The game is just looking at the same wins total and not the actual win pct?

Say it isn't so

At the current moment, the Bengals are listed #1 and the Ravens #2.

We'll see if they end up with the same W's at reg season end (sometime early next week we'll be finished the season and i'll post back if it happens with the results.)

Re: Madden tiebreakers determined by alphabetical order!

So did we ever figure this out? I'm about to enter Week 17 in my 49ers franchise (year 2). There's 5 teams fighting for 2 spots in the NFC, and 4 teams fighting for 2 spots in the AFC. I think I got what the real scenarios will be... now it's only up to the game to actually follow those rules. Actually, I couldn't complete my scenarios because I don't know what the tiebreaker is in Madden 10 after Conference Record.

And another thing, and this was very annoying and I'm glad I caught it: you know near the end of the season when teams clinch and they get the Y, X, or Z next to their name showing they clinched the division, berth, or conference. Well, the Eagles have a X signifying they clinched a playoff berth... but when I simmed Week 17, they lost their X and finished 7th in the NFC, out of the playoffs.

Geez...
