Portis retiers 53 yards short of Emmitt's record lol

So in 2017 Clinton Portis on the 49ers enters the season needing 210 yards to pass Emmitt for the all-time record.

I decided to play the third game when he was around 95 yards away from breaking it. The team also has Brady (first year in SF), Julio Jones, Crabtree, Vernon Davis, Pat Willis, and a few stud generated players. Good team.

So anyway It's early in the 2nd quarter and Gore has around 49 yards or so. I hand the ball off and he takes it up the middle for a minimal game, but eh stays down. He walks off under his own power, but he ends up having a broken collarbone, out for the season.

He was 36 when this happened and retired at the end of the season 53 yards shy of Emmitt's record.

Is there an option to entice a player to come back? Or is the only option to pay real $$$ for the Madden Store item that lets you keep retired players?

I haven't had anyone retire yet, but I hope they provided a way to do it without having to pay real $$$.

From reading past posts and looking around myself, it seems the only way to keep a playing who wants to retire is with the Madden Shop. I know it used to be an option, but seems now you have to pay for it.

In NFL 2K5 it was free to talk them out of retirement, why in the world do you have to pay EA to keep a guy from retiring?

If that's true, that's just wrong. You don't take features out of a game and then charge extra for them.

Pardon me while I put my EA Sports muzzle on.

A big deal was made about this early on. I remember it being mentioned in several threads, ironically I can find any of them now.

A quick way to check things out for yourself (just as I just did)

Start a new franchise, sign Marvin Harrison. Sim a season.

After the season, Marvin will want to retire. At the retirement transactions screen you will see "Accelerator Available". When prompted you will see the option to buy 1 of 3 accelerators via the Madden Shop.

Hometown Hero, Not Done Yet or One More Year. All of which allow you to keep your player another season, but cost actual money.
