I'm not for sure if they matter or not. ON the one hand there are people's experiences with certain OL. ON the other I know there are videos out with kickers at OL pancaking guys like Albert Haynesworth and Julius Peppers. So who knows? Bottom line if it seems like they matter to you then I suppose they do. IF it doesn't then I suppose they do not.

I know one thing for sure. The blocking logic will make you think they don't matter LOL.

Those videos (or @ least the ones I've seen) are showing that when you're on the defense & you put the game in All-Madden the CPU offensive is just cheating to make the game more difficult & in All-Madden levels ratings do not matter.

Re: Is it true that offensive line ratings do not matter?

I remember a few months ago before I sold the game that I put WRs as O linemen and the did better than the regular O linemen. I also remember lowing all of the stats and still getting decent protection. They may matter, but not drastically at all. For example, a 12 rated guy will give you a 90 rating performance, and a 90 rated guy will give you like a 97. They need to make it so a 12 rated O linemen can't even stand up to block before getting pushed aside, and progressively and consistantly get better as the ratings get better. For O linemen, there is very little difference from a terrible rated player to elite rated player.

Re: Is it true that offensive line ratings do not matter?

In my experience, line ratings on either side don't really matter. The sliders just sort of apply to everyone across the board.

The problem is just that the fundamentals are flawed. Regardless of awareness or experience or whatever, way too often the lineman either blocks the wrong guy (who is usually out of the play anyway) or actually misses the block entirely.

On the defensive side I can plug anyone at LE and they'll have at least a Pro Bowl year, and it's not user control because I usually play safety.

I know blocking ratings matter. Every time I get matched on a non-OL (RB/TE) when rushing the QB, I get in instantly.

This could be why it doesn't show up as much as it should, especially those that use default sliders.

At 50 or so, the differences in ratings could get masked more than if it's at 5 pass blocking.

While 5 might make everyone suck a lot more than default, it could also stretch things out more so that the crappy guys get pushed around more while the better guys can still stand up. Maybe not as well as they should, but better than the crappy guys, thus expressing a difference between the crap and on up the ladder.

And there's the whole issue of the ratings floor which allows the WR and whatever to play OL - but, throwing that out (since it's not necessarily indicative of ALL ratings not mattering, just maybe ones under X value) lower slider setting could perhaps help the OL abilities stand out more.
