You don't need to. Like FIFA, just buy the cheap packs (bronze) and use power ups on those players. However, I haven't played the Madden model. Just someone told me it's the same concept.

It is possible to play a game against your friend but you usually have to do the count to three method. At first, it took me and my buddy forever. But now we've been able to get each other 1st try the last four games we played.. it's all about trying to get a sync up just right. I usually do the count and then after I say go, I wait a half second to a second longer.. and then I go. And then we usually end up getting each other.

It's nice to be able to play a game with my 67-70 overall team against another crappy team and just have fun with the game. We both set up rules where we weren't allowed to purchase any packs with actual money, which as you know makes this game way more fun.
