Having trouble playing defense online

Just got online and having some trouble playing the passing game in particular. I realize that it's best to play as a DB. I normally play as a safety. I make a few good plays but it feels like i don't have enough of a impact and i mess up too much.

Any advice?

Play a defensive lineman.Thats what I do.Go for the pressure against the qb.And if it gets too bad defending the pass,play the middle with ur MLB

Really? I've always heard that it was best to play as a DB.

IMO it's best to play a LB, usually MLB because the middle of the field almost always seems to be open in this game. It also seems to be what most sim guys I play do (use a MLB). Either that or safety.

I dont know who is giving you this advice, but I do not recommend it. Playing as a DB leaves no Room for Mistakes, Personally I love it when people play as a DB or a LB just because I will pick you apart. For Example, If you are playing as a DB, I will call a HB screen, when you bite on the screen I will hit the man you were covering. If I ever play as a DB, its only because I am blitzing and I want to really cut the corner tight.

If I were you, I would play as a DE. You should also check out the Minnesota Playbook, it has a pretty good mix of everything.

Any suggestions on play calling. I just have really been struggling, playing a human is so different than playing the CPU. I'm getting better but any help woudl be great!

I suggest using the MLB like someone said...you really don't have total control in this game so using the MLB will leave room for error...if your playing with the corners then you can basically roam but i don't suggest using them...safety and backer...i prefer backer i can shut-down the run and shutdown the middle of the field...you can't do that at any other position and if you can you aren't playing straight up

Lately I've been playing as my DT in non-passing situations and it really helps shut down the run. If it's 3rd and long I'll usually play as the MLB if he's in zone coverage, but obviously not every time to avoid telegraphing my playcall in which case I'll play as my DE or SS.
