Re: WR vs DB and Pass Rush

LB, thanks for sharing your passion as you've done for many years. I know EA knows who you are, so I know there's credibility there. Their challenge is programming.

I recall last year around this same time, Ian and his team had a 'light-bulb' moment with gang tackling. The light flashed and EA quickly embraced gang tackling, albeit they had to tweak it subsequently. My point is that it's not too late for them to have another 'light-bulb' moment. When those moments come, everyone on the team embraces it and rallies around the concept. They do want Madden fans satisfied.

Hopefully they'll have that moment around your thoughts....

Thanks again.

If anything with Barnes is that the speed rush is what he's best at doing.

This is where I said you can't have guys doing 3 things at once. Benson broke the 100 yards mark on the Ravens because Barnes went up the field and because he was so far up the field he was out of position to stop Benson. He could only reach backwards and get a hand on him. Too late Benson is going to break that. Barnes has not shown he's stout at the point of attack so he's rarely used as a run defender. He's been used mostly in nickel and dime situations where he's either sent on a blitz up the middle due to an exotic alignment - 1st Bengals game last season; Patriots game in his rookie season; or he's used as an edge rusher. I wouldn't want his greatest assets to be neutered because of awr rating. This is really where there positional tendencies need to come into play. Barnes should have a positional tendency of pass rush. Bulluck should be balanced.

Only reason I used the two guys I did was that outside of AWR, PRC, and BKS (and OVR of course) they are very similar in all of their ratings - now that is for sure a different can of worms that I am not getting into.

I understand that they are two different "styles" of players and Barnes is like a 3rd year player vs KB who is like a 10 year vet? They made for an exaggerated example of two players very closely rated in "physical" terms but with high variances in certain "mental" areas according to EA.

And my line of thinking was that lower AWR players would be set to aggressive or go after the "big money play" - ie rookies, pass rush specialists, and so on would be more likely to go after the sack or pick or big hit by nature of their inexperience. I like your idea better of having individual player tendencies and maybe even have coaches' styles be a modifier or give us something like NCAA had where you say play aggressive/conservative or balanced or what not. I am not sure what best way would be.

Being that its only May 1st I am sure there could add this stuff if they wanted to. Basically from here on out is nothing but tuning. It just comes down to if they will do it not if they can do it.

If fifa has some "hand fighting" or jostling or what have you, is there any chance we see it in M11 passing game?

They claimed last year that this was specifically in madden 10

You know, I heard that Ian basically was run out here a while back. No one really said why, but I would imagine after some of the things promised in vids for M10 that were severely flawed or flat out broken, some people probably went over board expressing their disappointment.

I know I was ticked about the lack of finishing tackles and consecutive hits which Ian said somewhere were in and it was not what I expected.

Maybe though, if it was mentioned last year - it is something they were working on that "missed the cut" and hopefully it makes it into M11!
