It would be cool to set up tournaments with buddies online. Like a round robin type of thing. Have one person like a moderator and pick teams. Have a winner and losers bracket. Have the ability to watch the games would be nice too.

Probably because they've started to realize that most of their buyers barely play franchise mode offline long enough to reach the Super Bowl, and they play it online even less based on the usage data they've released. I also have a hunch that the success of the Gamestop online Super Bowl rematch demo for Madden 10 may have played some part in the decision.
