Re: Theory on Franchise Mode
Let me further explain what I meant, because in no way am I against things like sponsorships, drafting, relocating, fan days, concession prices, uniform editing, etc. Think with me:
First off, you create your head coach, just like in HC09. You choose your abilities (no restrictions, so that casual gamers can make their superstar coach instantly and have an easier game). Then, you assemble your staff, or keep it the same if you don't care, but you will be the Head Coach. The possibility to draft should remain. You can leave it up to your GM if you want to (simulate the draft), but by default you should be in charge. Same for signing/cutting players.
Furthermore, in-season you would have the option to go talk to your Owner and GM (two seperate options). With your owner you could make requests about big-picture stuff (relocating, uniform editing, ticket-prices, etc; and I do emphasize the "etc"). Also requests about leaving the team for another team would be made with your Owner.
With your GM you could discuss strategy, tactics, players, injuries, etc. He is more or less your mentor. In no way should you be obligated to go interact with your Owner or GM, but I think it would be a great way to keep your Franchise mode interesting. Furthermore, it would help players less familiar with franchise mode getting started.
And most important of all, you should always be able to play games with your team, that's what Madden is all about!
I am not for taking away power from the player, my idea is just to add a certain context to the game that would enable you to play through a story if you will. The story being the carreer of you as a Head Coach. Although I do like the idea of a merits-based system where you could obtain more power, depending on results, I think it should be optional. Maybe give franchise 3 options:
- Casual; GM and Owner make all major decisions, you are just the coach in-game. And by coach, I do mean that you control the teams yourself.
- Sim; You are the HC and can obtain more power through an 'approval' rating.
- Hardcore; you are in charge of everything. Yet, for the aforementioned requests and advice you need to contact GM and Owner.
In this way, if EA wanted to add a certain feature (ie. Fan Days, concession prices) it could simply be added to the Owner menu, keeping the core Franchise Mode the same.
