Bring passing cone back.

I'd rather they bring it back, but I don't want them to force it upon anyone. For me, it made playing defense WAY more fun, as I could use the free safety (Ed Reed) and actually play good pass defense. I liked that I could get burned on play action or jump some passes before they were thrown, it was a nice risk-reward system for me. I simply can't take a safety pre-snap and play the whole play effectively without it. I can't read what the QB is looking at without the visual representation.

I found it easy to use on offense when I used the L2 button (the lock on technique, not the analog stick). It was probably the Madden game I played the most (right with 2005).

I'm against it but it wouldn't hurt for it to be an option for those who like it, just so it's turned off by default on online ranked games.

I think it has to be a mandatory feature. If you program the defensive AI, particularly the safeties to read what the QB is looking via the cone, it has to be in for everyone.

Maybe instead of a cone, a slight left-right tilt of the screen? Implement this and the Tecmo Bowl WR progression system? It would at least represent the QB's eyes in a manner that can be used for defensive read programming. Then finally a quick down-up mechanic for throwing (a la the AP 2K8 kicking system). The longer you hold back, the more accurate the pass, the "hold back" timer varies on the QB's ratings?

I used to play as an AFC team (the Browns) and a random NFC team every year and when the passing cone was there it made the teams feel really different.

The biggest issue I had with the passing cone was how it actually made the game look so dorky. Yeah it did feel like it helped make the teams feel better and brought a new gameplay dynamic to the game but when you used the cone it just looked so stupid. I mean the actual game is trying to look like a Sunday game and having a big flashlight/cone roaming around the field made me feel like I was playing Tomb Raider or something.

Maybe if they could have made the cone's look more subtle it would have helped it be more accepted.

Yeah, that's what I was just thinking, like an opacity/brightness slider would be great.
