The story is true, your thread title is a little misleading though as the NFL didn't end their exclusive license, they just seemed to extend it to another game which I have no doubt EA had to agree to and get financially reimbursed to do so.

In the sense that you (and all of us really) are hoping, it doesn't really mean anything.

EA still have full rights to the NFL for now. What might happen later on is question mark right now.

I always thought the EA deal only pertained to the PS3 and Xbox360. There is a cell phone games and I think a PC game out there that has used the NFL license the last couple years.

Yeah but this could possibly open up a whole new can or worms. That could quite possibly lead to 2k sticking their noses in and trying to convince the NFL to grant them a license as well, thus ending the exclusive deal that is in place with EA. I don't know the legistics, or the loop holes that are in place, that would allow the NFL to legally void the contract. But only time would tell.

Me personally, I have bought every Madden (excluding 2002) since 2000, so I am institutionalised towards Madden, so I will in all likelyhood ride it out till it gets better. And imo the future for Madden does seem bright with Ian and co running the show now.
