How about a lack of deflation? Good players seem to be rewarded, but bad and old players don't seem to be punished. Tomlinson with an 83 despite being beyond washed up? Claddy is an 98 with mid 90s run black ratings and perfect pass block ratings despite being an average run blocker and giving up 8 sacks last year?

That very well could be the problem...but that again, drives the average up and narrows the amount of variation (STDEV).
