Re: Team Tendency Chart

nice chart. my only question is (and its purely rhetorical) why didnt ea use this data to make team specific game plans for the CPU AI to use in games (or at least assign them to the head coaches in franchise)?

And for a purely rhetorical answer. Because that's what they do. Or Don't do.

Re: Team Tendency Chart

If there was a way we could these numbers for specific situations which would be immensely helpful.

Through some research I have found that in an average game a team plays 26 first downs, 20 second downs, and 13 third downs. On first down the median in the NFL is a 53% run play. I can use this to extrapolate an estimated percentage of running plays on 1st downs for teams.

If anyone has sources for statistics I would greatly appreciate it.

*edit* with some further research I have found a spread sheet in excel that lists every single play in the NFL last year. It includes down and distance, time remaining, time, yard line. I was wondering if anyone familiar with excel could filter and specifically look at situational %s. This would make editing gameplans much easier.

Website is http://www.advancednflstats.com/2010...play-data.html

page with over view and link to download whole spreadsheet is http://www.advancednflstats.com/2010...play-data.html

Just DL'd it and am tinkering with it now.

I will play around and see what I cant dig out of here... But I admit to being a bit confused as to what exactly you are asking for.

Describe what info you would like and I will let you know if:
  1. It can be done
  2. Whether or not I can actually do it (Not an excel expert)

Re: Team Tendency Chart

So glad work is being continued on this. I wish I could help, but I'm terribly incompetent when it comes to math above multiplication and fractions, lol.

Thanks for posting this!

I've been using this spreadsheet http://www.operationsports.com/forum...post2041445965 . HeavyHitter did a lot of the legwork and broke down those percentages into number of plays out of 15 and also if you prefer stars out of 5. It's invaluable for me and I combine that with specific team stats to figure out pass distribution and then apply it to the gameplan. The major problem I'm having is the Madden playbooks neglect passes to the running backs unless it's a screen or from the shotgun. So trying to mimic a team's true tendencies is not easy unless you use the same plays over and over.
