I've seen one late hit in Madden 11, and it shouldn't even have been called.
I was playing with the 49ers against the Seahawks when Hasselback threw a completion to Branch on a out route. He was still inbounds and halfway through the sideline catch animation when P Haralson just tackled him while he was still inbounds...and got called for a late hit

Gamelogic probably thought if a WR is so far into his sideline catch animation he must be out of bounds and may not be tackled.

Some of these penalties, many in fact, only occur if you manually take control and cause the penalty. Even then they hardly get called, I've manually mauled CPU WR's without penalty many, many times.

EA's football games have always been this way though, half the penalties do not work at all, half get called all the time. After 10 years you'd think they'd get that fixed.
