What does the NBA Elite 11 postponement mean for Madden?

Any thoughts from the crowd?

I'll hazard a guess: probably nothing. I would love to see the Madden development team get a little more breathing room to iron everything out in future iterations, but it seems unlikely. Clearly, the NFL wears the pants in this relationship and does so with authority.

Re: What does the NBA Elite 11 postponement mean for Madden?

EA has been the ugly stepsister on the NBA circuit for a long time. Delaying the launch of the title that is supposed to get them back into the thick of things only makes sense if it's not ready yet. Damaging the long term potential of the "Elite" rebranding was a risk not worth taking when they were going to get destroyed by 2K in sales anyways. This year is about getting their foot back in the door... and releasing a garbage and unready first effort would be self-defeating.

None of this applies to Madden, where they are the only game in town for the next three years or whatever... They will probably be the only game in town for probably longer than that. I'm sure the NFL will want another massive money shot once this contract comes up... and EA is probably the only company around that would pony up the dough for the exclusive rights.

This is what you get if you ask for 'new engines'.

Madden should continue to build on what it has. Not scrap everything.....

To be honest, I was surprised when I went to start this that such a thread had not already been created.

Intellectually, I agree with what you're saying. However, to play Devil's Advocate here (*Disclaimer: I like Madden 11 quite a bit*), at what point does a game that has clearly gone stale in many dimensions become too stale to just keep building upon?

Does a game being stale mean necessarily it can't be made unstale without rebuilding from scratch? There is nothing about Madden that is locked in stone that can't be changed. I think the modular system replacement approach makes much more sense than rebuilding from the ground up.

Madden gets high reviews every year, and it sells well. Until those two stop happening, it has no effect on Madden.
