How is the system all messed up? I don't play madden 11 (traded it in months ago), but when I played prior maddens, unranked was all I played cause people weren't so concerned about records/cheesing, etc. I already knew about the terrible lag, but this really concerns me.

I just turned on Madden 11 and went to find unranked games. It couldn't find any. I try to create a session, and no one wants to play/join. I go to the lobby and ask if anyone wants to play unranked and people only want to sit in the lobby/play ranked games.

I just know that in Madden 09 and prior, I could "search for an unranked game" and find people to play. Unranked is a ghost town now. the only unranked games I have player of madden 10 or 11 are against friends.

On the rare occasion someone does join my lobby, or I find a lobby with someone in it, they leave right away.

It's called Quick Match for a reason. If a person wants more control then they have other options right?

I guess if this is really an issue it seems the idea would be to punish the people causing it and not make the people who don't have to change.

Why not simply put a timer penalty on the offending party. If you start a quick match and then back out of it voluntarily you aren't allowed to do another QM search for 60 seconds or 2 minutes. Seems like that would curtail the people jumping in and out.
Ya know after reading through all the replies and originally thinking that locking in before you play would be best... I think this trumps it by a mile.

Really who wants to play an even more random game against the top 5 teams since no one will more than likely pick their "actual" favorite team.

Re: Question about online quick-matching

I think the proposed change will just lead to everyone using the best teams. Like someone mentioned earlier, I like to play with my Chiefs primarily, but I give heavy consideration to using a team with a better, faster defense if I see my opponent has a really good record and rolls with Vick, for example.

At the same time, as someone with a pretty good record (60-29 or so), I find the 'bum-hunters' extremely frustrating. I seek out good opponents only, because I only have so much time to play a game every now and then and don't want to waste it massacring a bum, but more often than not when I draw an opponent with a record similar or better than mine they leave. Maybe quick match should simply hide your record and always match you with the player who's closest to you in skill level? I don't really like that bum-hunting is even possible. You can show the records in the loading screen, or something - a "Tale of the Tape" of sorts.

Re: Question about online quick-matching

Ian, this is a great Idea. The following idea would get everyone on board.

1-Have it to where we can Filter the teams we don't want to match up against. For instance, I would be a person that wouldn't care at all. So my filter would be left at -Any Team-. So once I pick my options, and go to quick match, I'd match up against any team.

If I was a guy that wouldn't want to play against the Pats/Steelers/Saints when I'm using the Bills, then my filter would have the Pats/Steelers/Saints in it once I select the Bills, so when I pick my options, team, and playbook...I'd go to quick match and know that I wouldn't be matched with a User who has selected one of those teams.

2-Allow us to Filter the DnF percentage and the Connection we'd tolerate before hand. Then we can select our teams and playbooks.

3-Allow us to Filter the Rank of the opponent. Now some guys would just Filter in the low level guys, but having a level system designed to where you cannot rank up by playing guys lower than your level would alleviate this. If guys want to rank up, they'd have to play guys around their level to do so. Playing level 1s should add absolutely no points to a level 23 and etc. That way, after realizing that they can't rank up without playing someone around their level, they'd filter in opponents around their level.

Everyone who disagreed above about the idea you expressed Ian would probably reconsider if you did it the way I got it listed above. That way, they wouldn't have to play the teams they don't want to face if its that serious for them.

Peace. I hope you consider.

I like the idea, but I think you should add a Cheeser rating as well...
