Forced to fire my Defensive Coordinator?

I just finished my 2nd season in my lions franchise. The year before I had signed a Defensive Coordinator to a 3 year contract.

After finishing my 2nd season doing poorly on defense I proceeded to the off-season. (went 9-7 on the season, ranked 7th worst defense.)

At the part where you choose coaches, "Defensive Coordinator" was in red, meaning I have to get a new one.... Even though this guy is still on contract for 2 years...

Basically the game wont let me proceed, since it says I need a defensive coordinator, but it still says "1/1" and he is still listed under "current staff" for another 2 years...

Im totally confused...

Am I being forced to get rid of him since I had a bad season defensively?

Even weirder, he may have been promoted to an HC somewhere?

That happens to me all the time too. So I add another DC and then it says I have 2 on my staff. It's really weird and literally happens everytime I finish the 2nd season.

It happened to me once, but I just fired him and then rehired him and everything was fine. I'm thinking he's supposed to be hired by another team, but somehow the part where he actually gets hired is broken. I figure it was something like that because my d-coord was Mike Tomlin

Yeah, Im still not sure...

I just fired him and hired another guy who gave similar perks and was a little cheaper.

This didn't happen in season 2 of my Patriots franchise... Just in this Lions one I'm doing.

I suppose its possible he might have been hired by another team as Ryan and Moylan said... and there is a bug somehow where he doesn't leave my team... I'll have to check and see if he's a HC somewhere else.

Still.... Weird though....

If coaches quit and leave for jobs elsewhere, or you are forced to get rid of them after a bad season I guess thats kinda cool... kinda realistic.... but I wish there was a graphic somewhere explaining whats going on with him.

As I said before. The coding in franchise mode in the programming is messed when it comes to hiring and firing of coaches. It seems even when the DC/OC/HC is under contract still. It seems like at the end of the season it shows that you have to hire another guy,but yet that coach would still be on your staff for some reason. It's messed up in the coding somewhere and it needs to be found and fixed by Ian and his staff this coming year.

Ron Rivera every time, also in M10 he had to be fired and hired every year.

Yeah, when your coordinator gets offered a head coaching job, you have to fire them to resign them as a coordinator.

Wasn't this way in the PS2/Xbox days...but, nor are a lot of things.
