Making trades more thought provoking

I think Madden should consider putting a bigger impact on roster trades.

One idea that just came to me was the amount of time it actually takes for a trade to be presented, developed, and followed through.

Maybe Madden should make the trade market a little more drawn out. Like make it to where it takes 1 or 2 days for Team A to get feedback from Team B. Then as Team B mulls over the proposed trade (depending on how equal or unequal it is), they send back other possibilites for the trade....which could also take 1 day or 2.

This would in turn then allow the media to blow it out of proportion and let the proposed player(s) hear about it and affect team chemistry as well as his morale.

This also will actually make the user take more consideration and time as far as adding the right players or picks into the draft deal.

Another hypothetical path would if the trade talks died out, now the user has to take into consideration the proposed players morale...does he want to be traded now? is he going to test free agency now? etc. I think the amount of time regarding the proposed trade should really affect the morale of player and his future with the team he's on.

Thoughts?

Love this idea. They would need to integrate some sort of calender though, as it is it's just Sunday to Sunday.

I'd like to imrpove upon your idea with counteroffering. Say it takes 2-3 days for the team to respond, and they like the general idea but feel they would want an extra late round pick from you. You then can choose to either Accept, Decline, or Edit Offer. Then if you edit, if the CPU team doesn't like it the 2nd or 3rd try they could end negotiations. My main thing is the CPU having power. I feel like I can literally do whatever I want in my franchise. I know the players who are good before they come out, I can trade any 1-year left vet star for a 1st an 3rd, I can horde young players due to botched salaries and lack of holdouts....I want the computer to be smart and realistic enough where I feel the challenge of GM/coaching a team on any given day. Trades should be tougher to pull off, as well as having the CPU initiate an offer...If a star demands a trade due to contract, his value should plummet if they can't find a suitor. That's where personality comes in, if he is THAT MAD, it should say inactive and you have to either trade him for pennies or cut him (TO on the Eagles, they had to deactivate/release him in 05)

I could have worded this better, but I'm extremely overtired. Moral of my story: CPU needs to behave like 31 active teams or all these points are moot. Here's to hoping.

Understandable, but every single thing that has been mentioned so far in this thread has been in other games, some even in PS2. I don't think it's out of reach for the year that's supposedly going to be franchise-heavy for these things to come into play.

This. Is. Awesome Davey. I hope that maybe Ian and co. would consider this idea for any future games.

Re: Making trades more thought provoking

That is an awesome idea. EA Sports actually has something VERY similar to that in FIFA 11 (and 10, and probably 09). You don't trade for players, per se, just because that's how it is in soccer, but you offer to buy the player from the team. Once making the offer (and you are warned if he's a starter, star, if the deal looks feasible, etc...) the other team usually responds in about 3 days. They will either accept the offer, reject it outright, or make a counter offer. If they accept, you can immediately move on to negotiating with the player, which can be VERY difficult due to their loyalties to their club, their age, or if they just moved to that team. I just recently bought Madden (this is the latest I've bought it in probably 10 years) because I've been so wrapped up in FIFA. After playing Madden twice now, it makes me miss FIFA so much, the little things like that just make FIFA such a much more complete, enjoyable and realistic game.

Do you think there would still be time to implament this into the Madden 12 game? Maybe with a very big patch? puh-lease?

This would make it so much realistic for players like Haynesworth....
