NFL and EA Extend Exclusive License By Additional Year...

http://www.pastapadre.com/2011/02/14...ts-by-one-year

Quote:
With the uncertainty surrounding the labor negotiations that will determine whether there is even an NFL season to come, EA Sports in October requested a reduction of around $30 million in payments related to this year’s upcoming title. The lack of an NFL season would have a significant impact on operations and potential sales and that has the company making very conservative fiscal projections as they plan for the worst and hope for the best.
According to Sports Business Journal the league has decided to reduce the costs paid for the license for the coming season and the two sides have agreed to extend the contract by one year taking it through 2013. The original deal was signed in 2005 for an initial term of three years and then extended for an additional five years in 2008. EA Sports has not responded to requests for confirmation or comment as of publish time.
The news on the restructured contract means that Madden will remain as the sole NFL licensed game on the consoles through Madden 14. As explained in the article the license is extremely lucrative for the NFL. The question shouldn’t have been, or continue to be, whether the league has the desire to proceed with exclusive deals in the future. Instead it will come down to whether a company such as EA Sports will find making such a deal to be a responsible investment.

Not a fan...but at this point, what's one more year? I don't see this as the end of all life on the planet. Am I jumping around in excitement? Nah. It is what it is.

Pretty much the same way over here.

Don't like this at all.

I want Madden to be good, but competition will push it to be great.

Also as the second poster said, what is 1 more year?

And why just the 1 additional year, is that a show serious improvement by then or else extention?

I feel this won't matter...is anyone sure we'll make it to 2013?

Well. We'll get Madden 13 for a few months at least.

See, I don't get this thinking. This isn't an indictment on EA by any means. The NFL probably wanted an extra form of security seeing as every other thing involving the league is falling apart. Sure, the earlier next-gen games aren't what we all wished, but M10 was a good start, and 11 was more under the hood. 12 will be whatever it is, and 13 will be whatever follows. I'm not the most positive person in the world, but Madden 10/11 is more fun than 06-09, by miles. With a few more editions (as small as the steps may seem), maybe you'll actually enjoy a Madden in the future.
