whats good defense to stop pass across middle?
what's a good defense to stop this? i don't play online just offline franchise but yet i get torched every game just about across the middle, i use the 3-4 defense playbook i have all other pass defense down except this i even do the zone to middle that helps lil but the te or wr always seems some how to get open and is always a 10-15 yard completion every time.Tags: None -
Re: whats good defense to stop pass across middle?
Depends on a few things...
- If the passes are thrown short try a QB spy play. Effective against drag routes, inside slants, and defending the shortest possible pass beyond the LOS on QB rolls outs. They read the QB's arm and are more likely to tip a low trajectory pass even if it's thrown hard.
- If they are thrown in the medium ranges use at least 1 Hook zone (yellow). Effective against post routes. Several hook zones form coverage across the field effectively clogging underneath and intermediate routes.
- If the passes are thrown deep try a defense using a Cover 1 or Cover 3 shell. The player defending the deep middle will defend receivers beyond 15 yards.
If you're the type that looks for stock defenses, look for "Robber" plays that use one safety in a hook zone with the other defending the deep middle. Playmaker a defensive lineman to spy and your middle will be well defended.
If you're the type to move defenders, the angle a defender approaches his assignment can be the difference between having a receiver look open at the time of the throw, while the receiver is really running into the meat of the coverage. You will need to experiment with your team vs. your opponent's team to find the right placement for their specific execution.
Hope this helps...

Now I pick a regular cover 2 man to man. Now I monitor the middel my self with either a LB of safety.
It sounds simple , but this is all I do, and I never have a problem controlling the middle of the field.
I also do Defensive assignments, and make sure I match up my defensive players with the right matchups.
One tip never strafe with your player. They seem to plant and delay before moving again. I just move my guy, and let him flow. Turn Auto starfe off.

Keep in mind the type of plays you are calling. If you're going with man, Two Man Under has the corners taking and outside technique on their receivers. Cover 1 has the corners playing inside to the receiver. If you're in zone, Cover 2's usually do a good job of taking away the underneath stuff.
I user my MLB and I used to never look at my player, I used to just flow to the ball as you said, but now with the improved blocking, and mainly the RB's cutting back, I get caught up in traffic so I find myself watching my player more than ever.Last edited by Senator Palmer; 03-15-2011, 01:07 PM."A man can only be beaten in two ways: if he gives up, or if he dies."Comment

How do you work your eyes when you're controlling your guy? Are you looking at your user-ed player, are you looking at the QB, or the routes developing?

Any wr running deep I dont care about because I always have to safeties over the top. I just worry about the underneath stuff that crosses the middle of the field.
I'll record a game tonight and post it up, so you can see.Simply *Magic* Just click the link and Watch :)

Re: whats good defense to stop pass across middle?
I can't think of a particular coverage off the top of my head right now, not in front of the game. What I do in the cases that I'm playing a guy that is repeatedly attacking the middle of my defense I'll try to drop one of my linemen back into a deep coverage. People go TE across the middle most of the time so that's a quickly developing route. The D-lineman that I send to play deep coverage while usually be right in the vicinity of the pass right about the time its being thrown and will be there to either tip the ball while being a part of the traffic in the middle or will lay a hit on the guy for me to help cause a drop.Comment

I have one idea for ya. I'm definitely not a master of the 3-4 but here's something that works awesome for me almost every time in short passing situations. ANd when I say work, I mean doesn't give up a big play. pretty hard to tell someone a play that can keep a perfect throw from being completed. but you'll have it covered, and at least make the tackle most of the time. K it's simple , 3-4 normal or stack, cover 3, flip the play, and take the lb who has a light blue zone on the likely busy side of the field and make it a yellow.Comment

Re: whats good defense to stop pass across middle?
I got some knowledge dropped on me in this thread on page 6:
http://www.operationsports.com/forum...dd-madden.html
2 Man Under works the exact opposite to the way I thought it would. I thought with two deep safeties over the top, the corners would always play inside technique, but apparently it's generally taught differently in real life, so I went into practice mode, labbed a bunch of defensive calls and watched only the first steps of the corners.
It was eye-opening to see how different coverages and blitzes worked. I even noticed one play where one corner played inside and the other played straight up. And one bracket coverage had the corner playing perfect trail technique.
I had a few written down that I seem to have misplaced, but I wanted to catalogue the rest because I thought it would have been an interesting thread topic."A man can only be beaten in two ways: if he gives up, or if he dies."Comment

Re: whats good defense to stop pass across middle?
In my experiences, QB Spies don't work very well. Maybe it's just me. The defender stays with the drag/under route for a few steps, but once the receiver breaks to the outside, it's all over.
Not to mention there aren't a lot of double-spy plays, at least in the Eagles playbook, which I use.Comment

If it's a drag, your best bet is to get quick pressure and for a quick pass or just manually play the CB on him and stay infront.Comment
