Voting for the Rookie Ratings?

Last year I thought it was cool that as the picks came in we could vote for the Ratings of the players. I also thought it was good that we could only move it up 5 or down 5 to keep things realistic. This year I haven't heard much about it at all, so I guess this means they aren't doing it again this year or will they?

I didn't like it at all. Everyone just rated all the players higher. I feel they should hire a team of people to handle the ratings. Donny does a damn good job, but he can't be expected to keep an eye on everyone.

Things like this the fans don't need a lot of imput. You just have homers or people who hate a certain player voting based on the stance on the player.

This isn't exactly something I'd miss doing.

Re: Voting for the Rookie Ratings?

I believe that fans should never ever have control of anything. We fans (ie homers) tend to do more harm than good in voting for things because the majority of us aren't very objective.

Re: Voting for the Rookie Ratings?

As a guy who prefers hard, measurable data and objective scouting information, I am STRONGLY opposed to letting the fans rate players. In a game where passions run high, homerism is likely to be rampant. Giving fans the ability to vote on anything that requires objective understanding is asinine at best. We all see what happens with the Pro Bowl every year. Aaron Rodgers didn't even make the pro bowl in 2011 even though he had a better statistical season according to QB rating than Vick, Ryan, or Brees. How do you figure that? Brees and Ryan weren't even in the top 10 in QB rating in the league! And you can argue that their TEAMS played better than the Packers during the regular season, but when it counted most, all teams failed when having to face the Packers in the playoffs (except for those Saints who chose to lose to a 7-9 Seahawk team instead

BOTTOM LINE: Rate the rookies based upon their scouting data. The numbers do not lie. Trust the same system that each NFL franchise spends millions on to evaluate talent in college. Besides, I highly doubt most of the fans looked well enough into the draft prospects during their college careers anyway to claim any expertise, especially along the lines of OL and specialists.
