Re: Do You Want Strategy Pad Again In Madden 12?

Although I liked the intent of the strat pad to limit the ability of gamers to do so much at the LOS before the snap, I didn't like the mechanic. So, no, I don't want it in Madden 12.

I now I am a broken record by now but I want them to put some of that stuff in the defensive match-up screen and playcall screen. The only defensive things I think should be available at the LOS are LB/DL shifts, 2 audible plays and the receiver spotlight (defensive commit too if they bring it back)

Just to be clear, I think the offense should stay mostly the same except for being limited to 2 audible plays and ONE hot route/read adjustment.

I vote NO. Guys I'm convinced that Madden 11 wa really Madden 10.5 and I know I'm not alone in this. The problem is they changed/adjusted things in 11 that didn't need to be changed. I can understand if you would like to add the option for newer players to use the D-Pad but changing it completely was just straight annoying.

I think you are misunderstanding what streamlining means. If anything, the one thing the strategy pad DID succeed in doing was streamlining all the presnap adjustments to one set of controls (everything on the directional pad / sticks), rather than having to use unrelated button commands to adjust each portion of the defense (LB for the defensive line, RB for linebackers, Y for defensive backs, A for individual defensive hot route, Y for offensive hot route, X for audible... you can see where I'm going with this). To a new player, this system is overly daunting and surely turned away a ton of people from the Madden games.

The mistake EA made was not leaving in the old system for experienced players who already memorized all the commands and preferred the speed of the old system (the strategy pad indeed requires additional button presses), thus the strong community backlash against the strategy pad. This was no longer a problem once EA patched the legacy preplay adjustment controls back into the game, but no one wants to give EA credit for this because EA is the evil empire or something.

Well said.

As long as we have the option for both everything is good. I liked some things about the Strat Pad, but ultimately I went back to my old school ways. I was happy when EA gave us the option. Funny thing was I learned the Strat Pad inside out after half a dozen practice games.

It's not rocket science. It's a video game.

Doesn't bother me either way. I got used to the strategy pad and by the time the patch came out I was already used to the strategy pad and didn't bother going back to the old way

I was against it when it was first mentioned as a feature for Madden 11. Was happy when they made it an option to use the old playmaker feature.

I hated Madden 11 because I had to do so much on defense in terms of pressing buttons and it's hard to memorize. If I don't play it for a week or a month I have to remember everything all over again.

I vote no to strategy pad. The reason why I couldn't get into Madden 11 like the strategy pad. I played probably under 15 games and sold it because of this and will not buy it if they have it in Madden 12.

You know I rented madden 11 early on and didn't like the way it felt. I got it a few months later and other presentation find it better than madden 10. Some patch allowed you to used the old buttons instead of the strategy pad (which I believe you can hide or turn off....I don't but I thought I saw that somewhere).
