Classic Teams?

With the news of expanded rosters and custom playbooks, do you think that this year will see a return to being able to make full classic teams? I know that Madden 10 had them, and Madden 11 really didn't. What I have seen from the gameplay, if Madden 12 has the ability to make 32 classic teams and a way to transfer them, I'll definitely pick it up this year.

Also, are their many old style facemasks in the game (single bar and double bar)? I haven't really been playing Madden in depth for the last several years.

The only way to do it would be as DLC. EA would have to buy the rights to the classic players. IF they put tons of detail into classic teams, getting the uni's right, all the players and numbers right, as well as the playbooks, it would be something alot of people would pay to download.

Could you imagine playing an opponent online who selects the Patriots, so you pick the 99 Rams? Or maybe any of the 80's Niner teams. Bill Walsh roaming the sideline once again. This would take a bit of work from EA but I think the benifit ($) would be worth it.

That's one thought, but not exactly what I meant. I was just wondering if a user could now make a roster file with classic teams and created players made to look like and play like the classic players. Sort of like what was done for Madden 10 and NFL 2k5. Those classic roster files didn't have accurate faces and names, but at least you could play with your favorite classic teams and if they did that now, you could then even use custom playbooks to make them play like they once did. It would nice to see the 75 Steelers using a lot of two back sets and doing it effectively.

No they wouldn't. They never did that in all the previous versions. Remember the old schools teams only had numbers. You had to edit them yourself and pretty much know the right "number" of the particular legend that you are editing. Not only that but a lot of those players are dead. The classic teams were one of the best features of Madden. I used to never use any of the current teams or play online. Using the 72' dolphins or 85' Bears was much more appealing to me and still is.

I personally have never like the way EA handled the classic rosters

Basically they just gave you a roster with only player jersey #'s and called it 85 Bears and rated every player 99 overall....................

I mean seriously if your going to include the teams the least you could do is rate the players properly and not a slap 99 throw power and 99 accuracy rating on Jim McMahon making him no different from Joe Montana

I would rather they just unlock the current players and let us edit over them allowing us to make them who ever we want them to be and that way we can create our own classic teams and use the old school uniforms EA already includes with the game

If they ever did that I'd probably be able to knock out 32 classic teams myself properly rated in 2-3 months time

I wish I cared about classic teams when they were a part of the legacy gen games. Alas, I was a teenager and more concerned with the current teams. I recently started going through Madden 07 PS2, and I plan on going through a franchise with the renamed/numbered/rerated 1990 Eagles to win the championship that 1991 should have brought.


I'd equally appreciate if more retro uniforms from the classic days came in, so if we can't use the classic teams themselves we could at least enjoy the historic aspect of it. Imagine Michael Vick and Trent Cole wearing the same uniform as Randall Cunningham and Reggie White did. I'd be in Philadelphia heaven

Ah this is GREAT! I LOVE Classic Teams! I am one also who never messed with the current teams, just Classic Teams..
There is a Site, FF. and there was a Guy who posted Great Classic teams with Great Ratings. Muscle Mike.. His Rosters were Awsome!
I love having CPU vs CPU and sitting back watching 75 Steelers vs 66 Packers or many other Great Teams.. I like Madden 10 and Caplords rosters, I just wish I had a ratings system and could edit them some, and make more teams- like 97 Broncos..

They could simply put the year of the team and the players only have the numbers,

But it guess that classic teams will never return at least in the near future, too bad

It would be awesome if they just went ahead and included classic teams, but I would just be fine with allowing us to fully edit the players in the game. Right now, handedness, height, weight, and faces are all not available to be changed on current players, and I can't make enough created players to fill 32 classic teams. I really hope they just give us a chance this year to make some classic rosters. I would really like to create The Greatest Show on Turf.

I hated the mixed up numbers and felt the ratings were not all that accurate either. Thats why to do it right, to really do classic teams justice they would have to be DLC that we pay for. The way classic teams were done in the recent past was basicly a waste of disc space, in my opinion. If you are going to do it, do it right.
