Progression yes, but what about regression?

I know all the discussion has been regarding dynamic player performance, incremental progression, and player roles and streaks, but I was wondering about regression. When older veterans leave the NFL, do their ratings regress as they age? What about draft day duds?

It's unrealistic to expect that players continually get better until they don't! Rather, wouldn't they slow down, lose arm strength, become more injury prone? Sure, they'd continue to become more aware through wisdom. The mental part of the game would get easier, but the physical side gets tougher.

Has that been part of Madden?

I would say they do since the article mentions they can lose player roles based on performance. I think there was some type of regression even in 2011 right? If I remember right in my franchise, Turner seemed to regress every year until I had to draft another back. I could be wrong about that though, but I thought guys in my franchise got worse over time.

Older players have always regressed, some faster than others. Meaning the players that are in the high 90's regress slower than say a 33 year old who is an 80.

Thats what I thought. My mind went blank, but I was pretty my guys regressed.

In my chise Matt Hasselback regressed from 80 to 79 to 75 before I cut him.

Since they have an "under performer" role, I'd bet you could see guys regress too if they carry that throughout the season.
