I've given up the fight honestly. I've enjoyed the last few iterations though. I suppose well get it back oneday.

So ultimately, we are playing on the some of the same coding from ps2/xbox instead of coding written specifically for next gen consoles. I think thats why many of the next gen games(shooters, rpgs, etc) have had so many improvements while some games just seem to "spin their tires" and not make too many major advancements. It took EA two instalments to rewrite Madden franchise(if the excuses of taking a year off for the most part to improve it is true).

So instead of coding the game specifically for next gen, they are still plagued and hampered by old gen coding.
No, they completely re-wrote it. It is all based on the terrible Madden 06 on 360.

I'm sorry, but I'm going to believe what Ian has to say over what you have to say.
You think Ian would have honestly said anything different? If it was simply
because they were cutting corners you think he would come out and
say it?

The player momentum while running on the ps2 was not done with any
fancy physics engine. They simply used animations that had the player
planting his feet and leaning. This coupled with the movement being
programmed to follow a curve based on speed and momentum.

This is very simple and could be implemented on the current gen if desired.
Its alot simpler, that say ...momentum based tackling which they added
this year.

The diff for me is that I don't think that it was ever that good. The animations have always been bad. There never was a great locomotion system. There never was much momentum.

If you want to talk about how bad animations are now, or how bad the locomotion system is now, I'm with you 100%, but when people start talking about how good the animations or loco or what ever was on last gen, that's when I make a b-line for the exit.

There was plenty of momentum when running. Sometimes you would
steer your player over the sideline, because the effect was so strong.

It certainly wasnt perfect, but the players felt like they had weight, when
you changed directions you could see and almost feel the weight shift.

The current locomotion is shocking, when players go to change direction intsead of planting a foot, they shimmy! At full speed! Which creates a
strange visual sliding effect that looks like some kind of Irish jig. That
or they just turn on a dime with no effect at all.

I think you have a memory of last gen Madden that is a lot better than it really was. When i think of last gen football I still see zig zag running a possibility because games didn't have momentum and physics. This goes for 2k and Madden. The new locomotion is better than last gen, may not look better, but it is better. My opinion of course.

You need to go back and play it again then!

I play madden 11 on my psp on a daily basis, and it has the same running
as madden on ps2. When you turn the players lean and curve and
use foot plants.

oh, and in what way is the locomotion better?

All you need to do is look at the videos I quoted, last page, and the comment I made regarding the Bucs TE. The TE changes direction completely, at full speed, and moves in the opposite direction. The result is a cluster of Panther players as the TE runs for a TD.
