A lot more time for defense to make pre-snap adjustments.

For me - they have to fix the blocking. There's too many glitches right now.

No. No audible. Just don't want the D to leave wide outs unaccounted for before the snap.

In real life if the defense is in a 3-4 they'd have the outside backer slide over to the slot receiver, even if that particular LB was assigned to blitz or be in zone coverage. Either that or a safety would come down.

It not only looks bad when it happens, but it also often effects the play, sometimes pretty dramatically.

I'm pretty sure it only happens when zone coverage is called, so who knows maybe it's just a simple matter of making it so the slot guy gets lined up over by the closest LB, safety, or nickel/dime back. I hope so.

edit:

This gets tricky though because I've seen situations where a slot receiver is on the right side of the field, and both a nickel back and a safety are on the left... So they'd either have to shift players in unison, or have one player run to the other side of the field to line up over the slot guy.

In other words, I don't think there's a simple fix for this.

This video actually shows a good example of slot receivers be ignored.

@4:03 Boldin goes in motion to the left side, the CB doesn't follow him and instead stays on his side of the field, and so no one lines up over Boldin. Result: he's wide open on the out pattern.

I suppose the fix would be to have the safety on that side move down closer to the line of scrimmage, to at least disguise the coverage better. Instead Boldin goes pretty much unnoticed until he's a few steps into his route.

edit:

Yeah... Almost 100% sure this happens when zone coverage is called, because @ 8:59 you see the TE go in motion to the slot and the LB follows him. Play called appears to be MLB blitz with man coverage.

3 things in order of importance...

1. Punt Return Blocking

2. Defensive alignment

3. Toning down of big hits
