In real life if the defense is in a 3-4 they'd have the outside backer slide over to the slot receiver, even if that particular LB was assigned to blitz or be in zone coverage. Either that or a safety would come down.

It not only looks bad when it happens, but it also often effects the play, sometimes pretty dramatically.
It also tells your opponent that you're playing zone.

You can hear some of it here. I know this is from E3, but I don't really like the way the videos EA has released look. They are too dull and don't show how great this game actually looks on your HDTV's. The development team invested in a new commentary engine this year, but it won't be fully utilized until Madden 13. There are elements of the commentary that were developed on the new engine in place here, during pregame, when the qbs take the field, starting lineup overlay commentary(added after E3), new commentary lines(banter between Gus and Cris), and the DPP commentary. There were some improvements this year, but a lot of the play by play still is from the old engine, expect huge strides in Madden 13 commentary.

AI Intelligence...I hate it when they make dumb decisions. Two examples... 1.) The 2nd quarter has less then 5secs left and the offense is around the opponent"s 40 yard line. It's forth down, and the AI would punt instead of go for the field goal, or if it's any other down, it will run a play. 2.) Catching along the sideline, the reciver is open along the sideline, and instead of standing still to make the catch they start the animation to run after the catch. If they just stood there and didn't move they would of been inbounds instead of running out while catching...
