The Next Five Years

Probably won't start my franchise in earnest until the next roster update...so thought I'd try a project in the meantime just to see how it turns out and if I learn anything interesting.

I'm simming the next 5 years of NCAA and Madden and reporting the results here. Feel free to comment if you like. I did write down the conference winners in NCAA but wasn't sure that those would be of interest, or that this was the right forum. If there is interest and no one objects, I'll throw those in.

2011
BCS Championship Game: South Carolina 27 - Boise State 7

Heisman Winner: QB Darron Thomas, Oregon. Interestingly, the Heisman was his only trophy. Maxwell, Walter Camp, and O'Brien went to QB Case Keenum, Houston.

Notable injuries before week 1 (names I immediately recognize): PIT SS Troy Polamalu (8). CHI Cutler (4), Hanie (1). BUF Fitzpatrick (IR). KC Cassel (IR). PHI Desean Jackson (7).

Starting Quarterbacks:
CIN I deleted Carson Palmer. Bengals hired Bruce Gradkowski to start over Andy Dalton.

CHI Rookie Nathan Enderle started the first game. Hanie took over on the second game, until Cutler returned in week 5.

BUF With Fitzpatrick on injured reserve, Tyler Thigpen got the starting job.

KC With Cassel on injured reserve, rookie Stanzi started...which is BS, because the actual 2nd string QB Tyler Palko was a highschool classmate of mine.
2011 Mid Season (week 9)
Notable injuries: HOU Leinart (IR), MIN Ponder (IR), CIN Gradkowski (2), BUF Thigpen (3), CLE McCoy (2), IND Manning (5), NE Brady (7), WAS Grossman (1).

Starting QBs:
CIN Rookie Andy Dalton
BUF Brad Smith
CLE Seneca Wallace
IND Dan Orlovsky
NE Rookie Ryan Mallet
WAS John Beck
Midseason Standings

Re: The Next Five Years

2011 Final Standings
AFC North
Steelers 13-3
Ravens 9-7
Bengals 8-8
Browns 5-11

AFC South
Titans 9-7
Jaguars 9-7
Colts 8-8
Texans 6-10

AFC East
Patriots 12-4
Jets 7-9 (huge comeback from 1-6, but not enough)
Dolphins 6-10
Bills 6-10

AFC West
Chargers 9-7
Broncos 9-7 (jumped up from last place)
Raiders 7-9
Chiefs 6-10

NFC North
Packers 11-5
Vikings 8-8
Lions 7-9
Bears 6-10

NFC South
Saints 10-6
Falcons 9-7
Buccaneers 8-8
Panthers 6-10

NFC East
Eagles 10-6
Redskins 7-9
Giants 7-9
Cowboys 6-9-1

NFC West
Rams 10-6 (St. Louis makes the playoffs!)
49ers 8-8
Seahawks 7-8-1
Cardinals 6-10

SEEDS:
Steelers Packers
Patriots Rams
Chargers Saints
Titans Eagles
Broncos Falcons
Ravens Vikings

BAL Flacco missed the wildcard game, Cantwell filled in.
MIN Ponder on IR and McNabb out for 4 weeks. Hired Delhomme to start week 14.

WILDCARD
Ravens 27 - Chargers 24 (Baltimore's backup QB does the job!)
Saints 23 - Vikings 10
Titans 21 - Broncos 16
Falcons 25 - Eagles 17

Steelers 28 - Ravens 13 (But Flacco can't.)
Packers 27 - Falcons 17
Patriots 27 - Titans 10
Rams 24 - Saints 16 (Could this be The Big Year for St. Louis, finally?)

Steelers 27 - Patriots 22
Packers 36 - Rams 6 (Nope!)

So it's a back-to-back Superbowl rematch! Roethlisberger must have gotten a concussion or something, because even though he was fine after the game, backup QB Batch got more attempts than he did.

Steelers 27 - Packers 24

The Steelers get sweet revenge! And without Roethlisberger in the second half! Steelers scored all their points in the first half. Packers fought to make a comeback, getting it within a field goal in the final 2 minutes...but couldn't close the deal.

MVP: Aaron Rodgers (Packers)
DEF: Lamarr Woodley (Steelers)
Rook MVP: Cam Newton (Panthers)
Rook DEF: Ryan Kerrigan, OLB (Redskins)

HOU Johnathan Joseph tied the NFL record for most interceptions in a single game (4).

Notable retirements: Terrell Owens, Hines Ward, Jon Kitna, Tiki Barber, Mark Brunnell, Donald Driver, Ray Lewis, James Farrior.

Re: The Next Five Years

Found something interesting in the NFL Draft. Yeah, the Punter went 11th overall...we all know about that. But Heisman winning QB Darron Thomas falls into the second round. Certainly possible IRL, but notable nonetheless. Other than the punter nonsense, I really like how this draft went. Seemed very logical.

1) Browns - QB Andrew Luck, Stanford
2) Bills - QB Brandon Weeded, OK State
3) Dolphins - SS Mark Barron, Alabama
4) Chiefs - QB Landry Jones, Oklahoma
5) Panthers - ROLB Nigel Bradham, Florida State

Here are the QBs.
1-1 Andrew Luck - Browns
1-2 Brandon Weeded - Bills
1-4 Landry Jones - Chiefs
1-13 Dominique Davis - Redskins
1-19 Ryan Lindley - 49ers
2-38 Darron Thomas - Seahawks (HEISMAN WINNER)

Dayne Crist - Packers

Jacory Harris - Dolphins (I like this, he plays for Miami)

Ryan Tannehill - Bengals (They drafted the best HB too, threat?)

Nick Foles - Colts

Russell Wilson - Buccaneers

Case Keenum - Falcons (He won Maxwell, Walter Camp, O'Brien, and got second place for the Heisman, and he goes in the sixth round?!)

Kellen Moore - Giants

Dan Persa - Rams

What do you guys think? Heisman in the second round, multi-award winning Keenum falling to the sixth? Working as designed, or needs fixed?

Re: The Next Five Years

Award winners.. especially QB's, don't always go high in the draft, or at all..

From a scout:

"I will state ahead of time that I am not a believer in Keenum and I think he is the essence of a system quarterback, I donít think he has a very strong arm, I donít think he can read defenses well and I think he is worth a 6th or a 7th round pick at best as of right now."
