Covering the ball with a Quarterback = more likely to fumble?

I've wanted to know if anyone else noticed this. I decided to run a check last night and used Ryan Mallet and ran him 20 times while covering the ball and 20 times just sprinting down field not worrying about the big hit. While running with the ball full out sprint, of the 20 times I ran the ball, he fumbled once. While running and holding R1 (RB for Xbox), he fumbled 7 out of the 20 times.

Has anyone else ran into this issue or noticed it?
