Always go for the interception. I is way easier than a swat.
The only time I ever go for the swat is when The WR has burned my player and the QB throws the ball to him. I know there is no chance for me to get in position for the interception and about 20% of the time the swat will work.

If you look in the manual there is no swat button. In previous games it used to be LB but they took it out this year since it's not listed in the manual.

i haven't had this problem myself, Xbox 360.

when i user control and press the L button, i always get a swat animation.

I push the Y button and somehow, it either swats or lets the receiver catch and go untouched into the end zone....
