If he is holding out then why was he in on special teams? It's more like, a "holdout" than an actual holdout. A bug that is rectified by re-signing him. EA gets something authentic in the game, and its unintentional. Go figure.

I'm convinced that 'holdouts' were never actually removed from the game, just the interface.

Have you tried to sign a FA cheap to provide depth and then move him? I do that all the time.

Holdouts? Really guys, you're giving EA waaaay too much credit. This problem happened to a friend of mine. He used formation subs on almost every player and package. Formation subs don't reset if the player who was been subbed in is still on the team. Once he leaves it'll revert back to normal for that particular sub. If you subbed the entire D on various packages then you're either going to have to purge your team or just use formation subs exclusively to put the players you want back in. Hopefully this fixes your problem.
