Need help with line shifts

For the life of me I can't figure out how to utilize the line shift feature in this game - offense or defense. The manual says to press the R3 button to bring up the pre-play menu and then press the directional button left or right to open the menu to shift your line. Seems simple enough expect that it doesn't work for me at all.

When I press the R3 button it only gives me options to call an audible, show the play art, or hide the menu. There is no option to shift the line. Does anybody know what I am doing wrong? Is there a specific setting you need turned on to do this? I can't play the game without being able to shift my lines.

You don't even need to press R3, i think this is how the direction pad works:
Up: Coverage, then up again for loose, down press, left for show blitz and right for man
Down: Individual Audialbes (down blitz, up middle zone etc...)
Left: Adjust Defensive line (up spread; down pinch; left adj left; right adjust right)
Right: Adjust LB (up spread; down play inside; left/right slide left)

I know there is more, but that's all i can think of off the top of my head. Also you do the R3 button is pressing the stick in right? Not trying to come off as being a smart *** either, but I don't know why those options wouldn't show if you are pressing in properly.

Strategy Pad = BOO!!!

In the thread mentioned ^^^ there's a list of Strategy Pad links as well as one with the traditional interface (aka. Strategy Pad Quick Links). There's also a short list on another thread where you asked the question (OP has May in his username).

Thanks for the info, I'll give this a try. And yes I'm pressing the R3 button in. The strange thing is (and I just discovered this) it works fine when I use my second controller, but it won't work on my first controller. I have no clue why...
