Franchise question

On Cut Days in the preseason, what happens when you cut a player who is on a multiple year contract? Does the entire contract get off the board or do you still pay them the bonuses or something for the next couple years?

Re: Franchise question

The years and salary don't matter. You can sign a guy for the max amount of money and for 7 years, and as long as there is no signing bonus you lose nothing.

Basically this is how it works.
Lets say you have a guy who 5 year, 25M salary, and 5M signing bonus. If he stays on your team you are giving him about 5 million a year. If you just signed this contract and then cut him you would have a cap penalty of 5M. You only pay a cap penalty for 1 year so it doesn't affect multiple years.

Another tip is to not use cut days. Just go into your player management and cut players from there. The Cut players screen won't warn you that there will be a cap penalty.

Re: Franchise question

The cap penalty affects your cap for the following season, not the current one.
