QB Clinic

Former San Diego State Coach, and NFL Coach of the Year, gives a fantastic QB clinic.

"You wanna place that knuckle right in the center of the a**hole!"

priceless. You gotta love Harbaugh.

Love the vid. Watched about 20 minutes of it. Definitely gotta bookmark it for later, but some of the little fundamental things Jim was breaking down got me to thinking about some of the little cosmetic things I'd like to see Madden polish up.

One is the quarterback grip. Every quarterback has their own little nuances in how they hold the laces. No two are exactly a like, but in Madden, every quarterback hold the ball exactly the same way. Second is ball carriage. It is one of the key things that QB coaches always harp on, because it's tied to ball security as well as how quickly and fluidly you can deliver the ball:

Take a look at Carson Palmer and how tight he keeps the ball to his body. From his drop, to his windup, and release, the ball never drops below his numbers. Brady tends to carry the ball a little lower, a little more relaxed, but still pretty tight to the body. He'll let it get a little lower from time to time, but it's still generally at the numbers.

Now you can go check this for yourself, but in Madden, when both of these quarterbacks complete their drop and settle, they will drop the ball to the bottom of their numbers right around their belt buckle. Both of them will even from time to time, take one hand off the ball and just let it dangle near the pocket. It's such and eye sore because it is so fundamentally wrong, especially Carson's. No professional quarterback in this era carries the ball while in the pocket down by the belt. It takes too much time to bring it up and get into the throwing motion. Couldn't find any game pics to post, but it is there and it's dead wrong.

Re: QB Clinic

Madden 12 visual evidence of the incorrect ball carriage...

Re: QB Clinic

Palmer visually reminds me of Jeff George as a Raider.
