This list is spot on! So sad the fundamentals of football are missing from a football game that has been around for over 20 years.

The "ratings" outside of:

Speed
Acceleration
Agility
Strength

Catching
Tackling

Run Blocking
Pass Blocking

Throw Power
Throw Accuracy

Kick Power
Kick Accuracy

Stamina
Injury

Does anything else really matter? Do a lot of those even matter? There are so many ratings in Madden that don't seem to do anything at all. I think the Short, Medium, and Deep throw additions do actually work, but I'm so sick of pretending that things like run blocking footwork, pursuit, impact blocking, etc. do anything at all. If they do the deference is minimal, and it's all just eye candy to tease us with to buy the game.

I agree with everything except play recognition, FB and TE blocking and pulling linemen. They matter...not as much as they should ( especially play recognition), but they do...

Re: Things that don't matter in Madden.

3-4 DT's- There is no point in having a great st in a 3-4 defense because they can't be double teamed so they cannot accurately do there job.

Anybody who's job is to set the edge on defense. It just isn't portrayed the right way in Madden.

My biggest pet peeve- Safety's- they play ******** in these games, you hardly ever see instinct by them. They play Rhett zones like dumb robots. And the ones who can actually tackle, never play that role well.

I could list more but this is my top 3

Qb ratings...at least in terms of consistency...I too often play games where Peyton or Brady are barely 50% and then some 3rd stringer lights me up with an 80% completion rate.

I bolded the ones I can't find much use for (in the case of Stamina, no use on default fatigue - 70+, imo, starts to show Stamina much more).

Strength - I can't tell. I can't say that I've ever had a player do better/worse because of strength. I have a couple 95+ STR DTs on the team trying to see what they do.

Perhaps it's combined with another ratings on certain checks, or it serves as a "check" rating for players taking action against them (like RBS might "check" against some modified STR rating, or maybe it impacts if it creates a double team on that play, etc)

Throw Accuracy I don't think matters when you play out games (i.e. in Play Now or in a played franchise game). Only S/M/DAC matter then. For sim results, I've heard that's when THA matters - it helps generate their performance.

Same is true for RBK/PBK. RBS/F and PBS/F and IMB are the ones that take over in played games. RBK/PBK seem to work more for sim results. I do think those "broken down" ratings do matter. My OL is a run blocking line - and they SUCK on pass protection. Like. Horribly. Meanwhile, when my FB went down and I had to use a TE for a game, the TE missed guys the FB would have picked up and whipped. I think that's partly RBS/F at work.

Maybe... maybe not. Bill Belichek and the Patriots signed two in free agency this offseason (Spencer Larsen of the Broncos and Tony Fiammetta of the Cowboys) and they are often ahead of the curve in the NFL when it comes to adapting and changing gears. Therefore, I would not be surprised to see FBs utilised more often in 2012 than people think.
