He states plenty of information that is not fact. How does EA's stocks compare with other companies that develop games? He is making a very one sided statement. I am not throwing insults at the OP. There are a lot of people that take video games way to serious compared to real world issues.

Of course Madden 13 is not EA's last chance. I do not see EA going out of business anytime soon and I am sure the NFL is happy with their partnership with EA.

EA is a company that charges $60 for entertainment. It is up to you to decide if you want to pay that $60. If the games do not entertain then it is a no brainer. If they do then great. If not there are plenty of other games and things that a person can spend their free time doing.

I'd agree with the above and say that '13 is far from the "last chance" that EA will have with football. It's more likely, relatively speaking, that the development of the game will get redirected to other studios if the game continues to underperform.

I don't wish anyone ill, but if I could have a wish be granted regarding Madden that was realistic, it would be to have Madden developed at a different studio by a different team and have the present talent at Tiburon set to work on other important titles.

I think as a fan of the game and a long-time Madden player that there's been a terrible lack of consistency and vision for the game for some time. If enough consumers agree with that sentiment, then one would think the money folks would be forced to rethink how the game's being produced and marketed in order to make it more profitable.

Until the game itself fails sales-wise, I don't even think Tiburon's "last chance" will be any time soon.

Regardless of his clearly made up stats like the '9/10' thing, which I'm quite sure he didn't intend anyone to take literally, the article in the OP merits discussion. I don't think Madden has much of anything to do with this, but the fact is, EA is declining greatly.

It's certainly a tough time for the video games industry as the console generation starts to wind down, but look at Activision Blizzard, what used to be EA's biggest competition (until they were outright surpassed by them). That company is holding strong, while EA's stock has plummeted. That's not good. EA is not the stalwart powerhouse it once was, Activision has completely usurped the throne as #1 third party publisher, and I don't see EA getting back in the fight anytime soon. The article does show that Take Two has had a steep decline as well (though their's started quite a bit later), but it's certainly a change to view EA in that grouping with a company like Take Two, essentially, just another third party publisher, a strong one, but still, just another. Nowhere near the powerhouse it once was, as Activision has got a stranglehold on that role.

People will buy madden just on the name alone. It's a tradition for many people. The average customer probably has no clue that physics have been added to the game, or madden is under a new development team. EA always caters to the "casual gamer" that's why we see stuff like tebowing added to the game, while some of us want them to focus more on gameplay. As long as it says Madden NFL football on the cover people will buy it regardless of what's in the game.
