Is there NO way to play any kind of offline multiplayer season/franchise?

Yes this is possible with online Connected Careers. You both sign in your Xbox Live accounts then one of you creates an online league (You can make in private for just you two) then once you create it exit out of it tell your brother to search for the online league you made and then he can join it. The only bad part is you cannot play against each other. Here is a video that shows you exactly how to do it.

I haven't been keeping up on the Madden news. I had NO idea that there wasn't an offline season/franchise. I'm kind of shocked at this.

I agree. I buy madden every year and I can't believe I can't play a season or franchise with a team. Wow. Dissappointment.

It doesn't make sense you can't create a player in "coach mode". You have to play "Player mode" in which you control only that player and only that side of the offense or defense.

This game is very limited. I understand for online, but offline?! This has been in Madden for years.

I don't even know what to say now guys I only play madden this way... If I wasn't a grown man I would cry lol I guess for the first time in more than a decade I won't be playing Madden this year.

This was by far the most disappointed feature that was removed for me(Or wasn't added back). Me and about 6 of my friends always play an offline franchise together. We been doing it since the 90s. We always get together on weekends and get our games in when we have the time. So this was a huge blow for us when this news broke.. I usually stay away from these topics because it always pisses me off when I read about this feature not being on the game anymore..
