How do you become a starter in ccm my player?

Sorry is this has been asked. But all I could find is that you have to earn it but not how. Is it done by rating or by doing well in practice? If its done by rating wouldn't make sense to be undrafted since it would take a lot longer to become the starter.

In all seriousness though, it will probably be by rating...and undrafted rookies do taker longer to make the first team in most cases in real life

But I'm not sure what all the factors are that determine your spot on the depth chart

Yeah I figured practice to increase ratings. But I wasn't sure if doing well in practice would make a difference or as long as you complete the goal that's all that matters.
