Q: Madden '12 - Custom Rosters Online Possible..?

Looked all over the web and couldn't find the answer. .

But, is is possible to play online franchise, with a other PS3 users using custom rosters?
What I'm looking to do, is play Madden '12 online with a buddy while downloading the '13 rosters. Curious if that is possible? Just heard so many grips with Madden '13
