Still confused by Production Rating

I'm not talking about rookies, but I'm looking at FAs in a connected career.

What is the point in this stat, and why does it matter? How does it actually affect an OVR?

For example, I'm looking at TO in free agency, and im looking at his usual catch/speed/route running stats. But his production value is 0. Chad Johnson's is in the 80s. Should I not pick up TO because that value is 0? I get that TO is 38 and going to retire, but thats obvious as hell. But how will that 0 rating affect his performance? Will it at all?

Why the **** won't EA explain this properly

Re: Still confused by Production Rating

I think of Production as "How well has this player performed recently"

It just tells you if someone has underachived, overachieved, met expectations, etc. It also tells you (in the case of Free Agency) if someone just flat out hasn't played.

If T.O. has been playing (for whatever reason) then he can't have a Production grade that is very high.

I largely ignore this unless a guy with a low OVR has a high Production rating. Without looking at stats it's just a quick way to see "What have you done for me lately?"

keeps you from having to look at player card to see if they have been active or not basically.

of you look at all the offensive line players you'll notice that alll of them have a production of 0 regardless if they are starting or not even playing. I'm also confused with this rating as well.

this is a good rating. im glad they put it in. I put people who produce in starting jobs, and thats how i judge them. I dont just automatically put in the best overall rating. this is one of the biggest factors when scouting college athletes in real life. If they didn't do anything in college then u wouldn't scout them

This is another example where I wish EA had a better manual that explained everything.

Calculated from the player’s season and career stats, position
and age. It is important to understand that a rookie will enter
with a production rating of 0. That will increase as he begins to
produce on the field.

This is not true...guys like pierre paul or say even a stephen hill had very little production in college but they were souted based on the fact of there physical raw ability and drafted pretty high. Players all the time get drafted n there 40 times or bench.....
