Would it just be more smart to have salary cap off and be extremely strict on myself as if it was still there? As it seems, many people have had issues with the salary cap on CCM and I want the most realistic and fun CCM as possible so that might be the best solution. Or are there downsides to have no salary cap, such as CPU grabbing anyone they want?

In previous Maddens playing with the salary cap off did not change the CPU behavior - they act like there is still a cap, and was actually beneficial because the CPU goes out and upgrades their roster. Thus, I always played without to avoid random bugs and because I simply control myself and don't go over the cap.
