Stopping the Tight End?

I am having some problems stopping tight ends against user players. I just played the Texans and Owen Daniels lit me up. I ran alot of plays out of the dollar formation even trying to find someone who could match up with him. I need help finding a way to stop the tight end. I tried man, zone, doubling up the TE with a LB and safety. He used him in so many different ways, and when I finally thought I had him stopped he would hit his wide receiver on an out route or scramble with Schaub. I prefer to use a DE when I play as i feel like I can get to the QB and could use some tips on using a safety or LB, as it seems when I do they exploit me in a different way as I don't have the stick skills.

Thank you.

Re: Stopping the Tight End?

I think USERing a safety takes some practice.

When I use the safety, I like to call a cover 3 and use the FS. That gives you the zone deep down the middle of the field. Sometimes you will not have a reciever come into the zone so you can play shallow and try to guess the tight end or slot receivers route.

If you have good cornerbacks on your team you could call a man-to-man coverage with the 2 safeties covering the deep routes. Then you could take a risk by controlling the safety on the side the tight end is at. Shadow or try to guess the route. He should be double covered in this case.

I usually drop the DEs into coverage if it's a typical online person who passes every down.

Man cover the TE with your best cover LB and one of your safeties. Then, maybe even spotlight him. If in Zone, try to find patterns of what he likes to run. If outs, then use pink or light blue. If streaks, use deep coverage and yellow underneath. If corner route (unlikely) use pink. Tight ends are tough to cover though, especially people who use New England.
