Great thread with a great list of features/options that would be nice to see added back into Madden. Personally, I could live without the QB vision cone, but just about everything else would be great to see back in the game.

To add to the list, I believe at one time you could name captains. And I believe Madden 07 had a vast aray of player roles that gave small boosts to certain attributes. If memory serves me, players could have roles change too. Thought that was a cool feature.

Owner Mode sounds AMAZING. EA better bring it back!

Wrong - the worst thing to happen to Madden was 3D grass - it effectively ended "signature animations" - the "graphics over substance" mindset of this gen was horrible - the vision cone was actually a feature that forced you to read defenses, allowed you to look off safties and it just added to the "strategy/chess match" aspect, which is sorely missing now because the pass rush is non-existent, the zone defense is horrid, and I miss the cone of realism...

Now, for the actual top 5;

5. Edit player - including Hgt/wgt/body type/position/number/ and
celebrations you can "map" to each button for 1st down/TD/sack/
big hit/FF/INT - after each event listed you should have a second
to press any button and have the celebration you "mapped" there
play out (no on screen cues)

4. Import draft classes with editor for imported and Madden "generated"
classes

3. Custom sub packages - global and formation specific (allowed for 2nd
and 3rd team packages and you knew what each was cuz you
made them...

2. Custom playbooks with play editor (even if limited to every assignment
that EA has in the game - I am ok with no custom routes - but
bring back delayed blitzes and let us pick what routes or
assignments each play has in it

1. PS2 control layout - more intuitive and by far more realistic as it
"forced" the user to let go of "sprint" to perform "footwork" moves
outside of very slight directional changes - "cut moves"
And yes I would keep "hurdle" on Y and triangle and have "cover
ball" accomplished by holding both triggers (stiff-arm) at the same
time - I would have had moves (all of them) like passing is now as
in "type" determined by user input and these new "modified" moves
would have been accomplished by holding the button and then
releasing - rating level (ACC,AGI) would determine how quickly you
could perform "consecutive" moves and rating level for each move
would determine the "window length" of how long you could hold
down each button before releasing (thus performing more effective
moves) but it would come with some risk - holding down the button
would cause player to "gather" his feet, holding too long for the
player's rating would result in loss of balance/slip/trip/fall/fumble
/injury

Honorable mention for me (#6) would be the vision cone.

Also a Quick hold of (I believe) Left trigger and the WR icon would put the cone right on that receiver at the snap to counter a quick blitz. Basically setting your hot receiver for when D blitzes.
Anyways I wouldn't mind to see more options than the outdated Hit X for X system we still have.

Yeah the button passing game is very outdated and is boring and repetitive, hopefully they give us something different next-gen.

Like what? I don't get where this is coming from and how anyone proposes having a passing system for football where you are not throwing to a receiver, or his route - When do QBs blindly throw to a "spot" on the field??? You may think that, when some nimrod receiver runs the wrong route - but the QB actually throws the pass, in anticipation of where the receiver is going to be, not just some arbitrary spot on the field - making the pass game truly "route based" meaning the throw can not re-route a receiver who is not looking at the ball would be the way to go, IMO...
