I'm beyond surprised by this, especially EA.

Re: EA Kills Online Pass

This decision clearly has to be from a cost and effect perspective. The number of online passes sold didn't add up to the effort in the online pass system. I'm guessing they didn't see a rise or decrease in sales because of the system and thus the effort was a wash. I myself never saw the good in it considering the microtransactions in the game and the people you don't reach by locking them out of it with an added obstacle only hinders their dream of a digital content distribution and in a way was counter productive to vision of the company as a whole....that Sim City game didn't help matters much either.

Now if I can just get my EA account unbanned.

I can't find this anywhere so I'm gonna ask you guys: does this start immediately? Abd if I go buy a used ea game will the online pass be free or just not needed at all?

Interesting. Online Pass shouldn't have been created in the first place,

I expect to see them perform micro transactions via CFM, like NCAA Dynasty, and the riddance of the Online Pass only invites more people trough the door for more commodity purchases.

Im speaking on Madden but the door is wide open for all games and EA has said in their exec report for the latest fiscal period that they intend to ramp on digital and online content sales.

Notwithstanding, this does boost their public image as many of their titles are already performing well in the marketplace.

Never assume EA is making a business decision solely for the benefit of the consumer. Never.
