Re: The "Fun-Factor". Does it exist?
I think the largest problem with Madden over the past near decade is that it doesn't feel like Sunday. And in case that wasn't clear enough, it doesn't feel like I'm actually playing or watching an actual NFL game.
Unlike it's NCAA counterpart, I feel like I'm alone on an island while playing Madden. One thing that we all have to give NCAA credit for is their in-game score breaks. Are you the #2 Ranked Team in the Top 25 and you're curious how #1 Alabama is handling #19 Florida? Don't worry, you're going to know at some point during your game. Are you in a battle for the NFC East with the Cowboys and you're wondering if the Redskins are going to drop their game against New York? Well...you'll have to wait until you're done with what you're doing. I don't understand how NCAA has had this for years and yet Madden hasn't adopted it yet. Game breaks are some of the most popular Presentation bits in all Professional Sports.
Another issue I have is that there is never any mention of transactions in the league. Personally, I'd be satisfied if all they did was throw up a graphic with the trade/signing details and made mention of the new player. I mean MLB The Show even does a bit where when the Trade Deadline is approaching, they make mention of the Trade Deadline and scroll through players that could possibly be dealt at the Deadline. In real life, Commentators are constantly going on about new additions to a team.
Another commentating issue I think needs to be resolved is that there are no year-long team stats talked about throughout the season. If I'm going up against Peyton Manning and my team has been garbage in the Pass Defense, it should be talked about. There are some trigger points EA could use to generate this conversation.
And finally, something I do think they've worked on fixing this year is the crowd. They just feel so bland and lifeless. Hopefully with the new crowd tuning their doing for Madden 25, this will be remedied.
I think if you fix all of that, you'll make people feel like they're actually playing on Sunday again. The mystique of those three hours we all sit behind a TV Screen for will be back in these games. That is what Madden needs to work on.
