Pre-Season Playtime Question

Hey all, just have a quick question regarding the Pre-Season in M25.

I will be controlling all 32-teams in my franchise mode so I can implement position battles for all teams.

However, does anyone know if a team properly plays its backups (at least gives time to second string) during a pre-season simmed game?

According to the research I've done, I know that a user vs cpu game subs the 2nd team in, but does a simmed game? Or do the 1st teamers play the whole game?

If not it may be very difficult for me to manage such a position battle
