I could never get use to that vision cone, but I was only in like 8th or 9th grade then lol. I think its a realistic feature for the most part.

Yep, edit players. Not sure with online - I only play offline. And, once you start the offline CFM, you can't even edit position (ridiculous that I am stuck with Trent Cole and Brandon Graham as OLBs if I decide to switch back to a 4-3).

Quite frankly, I hate the XP system, and much preferred the Potential rating of Madden 12 and before, although it was still a very simplistic model for player development. It really should be based on a player's work rate and professionalism, the quality of your coaching and training staff, and the quality of your weight room and other training equipment. I hope next year they make the staff system more in depth and allow you to hire position specific coaches just like real NFL teams.
I agree. I thought I was alone in hating the concept of leveling up, like in an RPG. I do not want to be able to decide exactly what attributes get increased. Maybe an option to train in certain areas (like back in Front Page Sports days), but there should be no guarantee of it working. I just do the auto-progress to avoid the issue. But, yeah, I preferred the old way (though that certainly had issues too - only have combine numbers for some players, etc).

setting team captains, player card having career totals, the team they were playing on, and being accessable IN GAME.

Assistant Coaches

full player editing

there is a LONG list of "small" things that just disappear from the game.

It's not the RPG element that really bothers me. I love RPGs so at face value it's kind of familiar in a way. What bothers me is that it's totally bass-ackwards. Players don't improve because they produce, they produce because they've improved. That said, I totally exploit the system as it is. I scout specifically for players with strong physical attributes but weak football skills, solely because position specific skills are way cheaper in terms of XP to improve than physicals are. And I also tend to bank a young player's XP until after I've resigned them to a long term deal so I can sign them for cheap, and THEN dump all that accrued XP. It's basically cheating, but hey... I only play offline CFM so I don't really care.
