Week 1 is usually one of the lower scoring weeks in the NFL. Tho, I will say that I don't see many 49-27 scores in Madden simulation.

I'm talking about games play. Sim score are fine... Play Falcons vs Saints and I bet you score over 70 points combined 9 out of 10 times.

I agree defense needs to be better but as far as stats one week can be deceiving. Tampa Bay had an obscene 13 penalties giving up 100 penalty yards today for example.

Try 5 min qtrs. Which, like it or not, is what the game is built for.

I will say watching the real game makes it very clear how tough run defense is in real life when you see how often RB's get stuffed or 1-2 yard gains and then you play Madden and every run is 5+ yards.

You can't possibly get 120-135 plays in with 5min qtrs though. Look at your scores when you achieve a realistic amount of total plays.
