Infinity vs. Ignite

What difference does a new engine make if they use the same recycled animations? What makes the engine different besides the presentation and audio?

Edit: A serious question.

Re: Infinity vs. Ignite

If you have to add the caveat that you're asking "serious question" about EA's buzzword marketing about "Infinity" and "Ignite" you've come close to answering your own question.

EA is a hype machine, a marketing machine, which is FINE in it's own right, you're supposed to hype and market your products.

The problem is that it seems, at least as Madden is concerned that 95 percent of the money goes into massive advertising campaigns, hype, player endorsements, etc. as opposed to the game itself.

I said this many years ago when I came on to this forum, one or two less prime time commercials a week and you can identify and hire the best programmers in the world, hire them and pay them 5 times their current salary and still have money left over.

Instead we get games that can't even identify the proper wind direction for years on end, legacy issues.....don't get me started, I could bullet point a list of fifty things if I really wanted to, it's just a waste of time.

Infinity, Ignite, Pro-tac....ZZZZZZ, let it go in one ear and out the other like I do, the game speaks for itself, loudly.

I just don't get hyping a "new engine" when the videos have shown a lot of the same recycled animations we have seen in Madden since forever. We need a true physics engine or this will never work. I'm tired of seeing animations we have seen for far too many years far too often.

Re: Infinity vs. Ignite

I might get a lot of flak for this, but I LOVED the physics in Backbreaker. Their engine was a great base to build on top of. I know, the actual gameplay was clunky, but the physics were amazing and the AI was pretty darn good.

Players would, unscripted, reach the ball over the goal line. Any amount of players could be involved in a tackle. Every player would have a physical impact, even through incidental contact.

If we could get physics and AI like this, true unscripted football, to work alongside certain animations (such as the QB drop back, real QB signature passing motions, receivers being put in motion - authentic football maneuvers that Backbreaker lacked), and we'd have one amazing playing football experience.

You're missing the forest through the trees friend, read my first post again.

It's not about the tools, physics engine, infinity engine, ignite engine, etc. it's about who is using them and how and to what end.

I can give you a 30 dollar cut of beautiful angus beef, all the best equipment and have you prepare it for me, if you're not a good chef you can take that ingredient, slather it with ketchup and burn it to a crisp and serve me a inedible brick.

You can hand me a rusty old set of golf clubs or a set of womens/junior golf clubs and I"ll find a way break 80. I can give my clubs to a hacker and he still won't break 100. It's not the arrow it's the Indian.

Re: Infinity vs. Ignite

The Infinity "physics" engine is just one part of the Ignite engine. Ignite is the new "engine" that powers all of EA sports next gen games. The animations are the same because they didn't recapture a whole new batch of animations. There should be some new ones though. Supposedly with Ignite it's supposed to allow thousands more animations, ai decisions, crowd behavior, and awareness. I agree though, this year I can't see the difference yet.

Great answer. It's nice when people answer questions and not take shots at EA in their answers! This actually happens less and less here at OS. Thank you.

No problem my dude. No need to throw dirt on unproven tech. Everything EA said about Ignite sounds like everything we could ever want. Thing is EA always makes everything sound good. So we just have to wait and see. I've said though I'm not gonna flame EA for Madden 25 next gen. I'll give them till next year. If next year still isn't showing me what I need to see. I'll know Ignite was just the usual EA hype and Tiburon can't deliver.
