Because it's "Connected" Franchise mode. Having the ability to sim more than one week at a time breaks the connection that you have with your franchise. The mode is designed so you always have your finger on the pulse of your NFL.

Technically I have no clue. But the reason above makes forget about the limitation.

Pretty lame excuse.

I wish it was as easy as it was in the older games. Sometimes I like to sim the first season and start the rebuilding process in my franchise but now it takes a lot longer.
