content downloads are extra...you should pay for those

They could still charge for that.

Explain. Don't just say they can. Explain how they could do this for current subscribers. Again, content downloads may have a small fee Ala one of the Links downloads as mentioned, but to play a game that is on Xbox Live requires only a subscription to the service. EA is making their sports games apart of that service.

If they were allowed to charge to play their games seperate from what 750,000 subscribers already pay to play on Live, that wouldn't be a smart business move, and that would be something that they could only do using their own servers exclusively.

But since you say they can charge us to play their games on a MS run service, please explain how.

Re: EA Going XBOX Live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All they have to do is require a fee for access to the EA Sports server on the XBL service.

People don't have to pay to play ps2 games online, but they have to pay for FFXI I believe.

Taken straight from the IGN article:

Quote:

Unlike Sony Computer Entertainment America's laissez-faire setup, which is determined by independent publishers themselves, Microsoft gathers and controls everything. While full fiscal details were not revealed, IGN believes that EA was able to strike a deal with Microsoft to lower the manufacturer's licensing fees for those particular games. Another possibility is that it's working on a new monetary package to pay for online play.

Re: EA Going XBOX Live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It could happen for sure. It already has happened on ps2 with Everquest, and I guess FFXI. I know there has always been a plan to charge extra for online rpg's on Xbox, though I'm not sure if that has happened.

I don't think they'll charge extra, at least this year, but it's very possible.

Re: EA Going XBOX Live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks CheckMate.

About FFXI, I don't have a PS2 any longer, and I never played online when I had one, so how does this work? Is it a one time fee to play? How much do they charge? I'm just trying to get some understanding of the financial cost just in case they do charge. So how does it work with FFXI? Inquiring minds like mine want to know. Thanks!

Re: EA Going XBOX Live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, after you get the $100 Hard Drive (which comes with the game), I think the first month is free and then its $10 per month after that--or you can just pay a one time $50 fee. (This is just random stuff that I've read so I may be wrong about some of it)

I doubt EA would charge per game though. I think $5-$10 per month (if they were to start charging) would get you online access to all of the EA Sports games.
